I have come to hold on to God's word that says teach a child the way to go and when he is old he will not depart from it (Prov. 22:6). Why? Because I am a living testimony of that. I grew up in a home where my parents relentlessly shared the word of God with us on a daily basis, where it was mandatory to belong to a bible-believing church and also be active members of that church etc. While growing up especially in our teenage years, it became a big bore for us. As the average teenager who does not want to be different, we followed "youthful lusts" contrary to God's word that instructs us to flee also youthful lusts but follow righteousness, faith, charity and peace with them that serve God out of a pure heart (2Tim. 2:22). My parents never gave up on us, they continued to admonish us on the way to go in spite of our shortcomings; they did not judge us as opposed to what we always thought if they happened to to find out that we were breaking some of God's laws.
Today, I am happily married and expecting my first child, and what I have constantly at the back of my mind is to make God the bed rock of our home. I am determined to follow in the footsteps of my parents- constantly sharing God's word with my household and holding Him accountable to His word that says when they are old they will not depart from it. I also like to think of it in this way- He blessed me with these children which He calls gifts, they were from Him, and so I must work with Him in their upbringing. I have also decided to hold on to His word in Isa. 54:13 that says my children will be taught by the Lord and great shall be their peace. O! the joy I felt swell up within me when I found that promise, it was a huge relief knowing that my hubby and I are not alone in this, but God himself will personally teach them with us and what greater head teacher can we ask for other than the Alpha and Omega.
We must not give up on the gifts, blessings and miracles the Lord has blessed us with, Always know that if we follow His guidelines on how to bring up our children, We never know how the little seeds we sow in the hearts linger on there and grow into a big tree bearing forth good fruits. He will do His part and we will be astonished how our little boys and girls (as we will always see them that way) will turn out. Don't worry He's got it all in control.
